IRVING - Former Cowboys backup quarterback Jason Garrett is being interviewed for the offensive coordinator’s position with the team.


According to sources, Garrett, who is the Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach, was flown in from the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., Wednesday morning and is meeting with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.


Jones says he has long admired Garrett’s work and knowledge of the game. He played quarterback for the Cowboys from 1993 to 1999. His father Jim was also a longtime scout for the Cowboys.

well to me it seems to be a bit of a stupid idea to hire a coordinator before a head coach

you should hire a head coach first then let him pick his coordinators he feels best suited to help him get the job done

what if the new head coach doesnt like Garrett ?

Same thing they did in Miami. Can't say I understand it either, but hey, it seems to be the hot trend in the NFL right now, so who are we to argue. Come to think of it, but the Dolphins and Steelers are going with defensive coordinators whose contracts predate those of their respective head coaches. Strange.

I'm a Cowboys fan, and I HATE Jerry Jones as owner.

A move like this scares me. Makes me think that Jerry is gonna throw the headset on and try to coach himself.

No way in hell that a franchise worth that much and with such lofty expectations would hand the job over to a kid...

Garrett head coach? I know many in the league like the guy and even as a back-up, thought he would be a fine coach. But that's a pretty big jump.

Garrett would be better than Wade Phillips, IMO, but not as good as a guy like Dan Reeves. There are better candidates out there and there are worse candidates out there. I for one am sick of retread coaches, especially those who have proven time and again they can get the job done.

They need to give T.O. an attitude adjustment before they do anything. He can hurt them or help them. I think Garrett will be a good Choice. He was good when he was a Quarterback for them.
