Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is leaving Dallas to take the Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator's job. Grizz of Blogging the Boys writes that Zimmer was never comfortable in the 3-4 set up.

I thought this comment by Greg Ellis on Zimmer was interesting.

Said Greg Ellis, "I am glad for Zim. Maybe he can get into a situation where he can be happy about what he's doing. He's a good coach. I believe he is going to have success and I enjoyed my time with him."

"Maybe he can get into a situation where he can be happy about what he's doing." That sounds like Zimmer was never very comfortable about coaching the 3-4 and wasn't thrilled to be doing it

I don't know how much I buy this. Parcells is a defensive guy and it's hard for me to belive that he didn't have a big input in the defense.

I wanted Zimmer to leave for his own sake, he went from having one of the best defenses in the NFC to just sucking wind to appease Bill's love of the 3-4 an AFC defense. Tom Landry always built his teams to defeat his division and win it in process a stategy that worked for years. Bill took the only good thing he inherited and destroyed it, and probably set the franchise in a do or die position for years with the people drafted to run this defense that they still don't know how to run. Maybe now that Bill's gone Zimmer could come back resurect his defense as head coach bring in Garrett as Offensive Coordinator and get this party restarted. Mike Zimmer was the last of the good old days, I wish Jerry had stood up for him.
