Julius Jones or Marion Barber?

As a football fan, not to mention a concerned fantasy team owner, I want to know which back the Cowboy fans will be the bulk of the carries for their club this season -- Julius Jones or Marion Barber III?

Statistically, at least, the two are very close. Both averaged 3.9 yards per carry last season, although Jones certainly had more opportunities [257-138] and yardage [993-538]. Each had five touchdowns, and each averaged just over 6 yards per reception as well [Jones caught more passes, however, 35-18.]

Anyway you look at it, they make a nice 1-2 punch at tailback. But for the sake of argument and for the benefit of us fantasy football owners, which is more likely to be the Cowboy's featured back in 2006?

Good Question

The answer to that is going to sound pretty pathetic but quite simply, relying on either one in your fantasy team is going to cause you headaches. Bill Parcells loves the running back rotation. And because one back isn't dominating defenses more than the other, he is likely to continue with the running back carousel. I long for the days when Emmitt and other marquee backs made picking fantasy teams much easier. These days the term "flavor of the month" leaves a bad taste to fantasy owners.

CRMartin nailed it. Knowing Parcells, and judging based on the season both of these guys had, I don't see either one of them getting the vast majority of touches.

It will, however, be interesting to see which Julius Jones the Cowboys get this year: the guy who surprised opponents in the second half of 2004 or the guy who disappointed Cowboys fans in 2005.
