Cool Re: Terrell Owens Suicide Attempt Overdose

He's been released from the hospital. When I first heard this I didn't believe it. I'm still not sure because why would they release him from the hospital so quickly?

Cool Re: Terrell Owens Suicide Attempt Overdose

It sounds like my first reaction was right. There was no suicide attempt - I think.

Re: Terrell Owens Suicide Attempt Overdose

Questions, questions, but so few answers. Owens and his publicist deny it, but the police report and the 911 call (supposedly placed by said publicist) seem to indicate otherwise. Bill Parcells has his weekly press conference in about 30 minutes but reportedly will not address the issue; Owens himself is set to talk at 3:30pm but has already told ESPN's Michael Irvin that he did NOT try to kill himself. Stay tuned, I guess.

Hanging up the cleats can also spiral him into a post career depression and it might be worse.
Apparently so as he was released from the hospital as my AOL board is showing me. Well I just think that suicide is a very serious topic and yes I agree that I jumped the gun but I was just trying to show that he could be saved with proper treatment. No matter what anyone says though its my belief that the man has problems mentally.

Hey, your heart is in the right place...and mental?...naw...though I would say he has emotional baggage...he seems a bit compelx and highly sensitive...he has a need for approval and love...though he is mouthy...a bad mix...

Terrell Owens Suicide Attempt - September 27, 2006

It is weird the Police Report is consistant with Owens possibly knowingly taking too many pills.

But I still don't think he tried to off himself. Just a misunderstanding.

Cowboys WR Owens denies he attempted suicide

VALLEY RANCH, Texas (Ticker) - In the most bizarre and disturbing chapter in a never-ending saga, Terrell Owens on Wednesday denied a report by a Dallas television station that he had attempted suicide.

WFAA-TV reported Tuesday night that the temperamental star wide receiver of the Dallas Cowboys ingested prescription pain pills in an attempt to commit suicide, which Owens unequivocally denied.

"There was no suicide attempt," Owens said at a Wednesday afternoon news conference at the Cobwoys' training facility. "There was a report about me taking 35 pills and that's absurd. I don't think I would be here right now if I took 35 pills."

Claiming he had an allergic reaction after taking "two or three" prescription pain pills along with his dietary supplements, Owens was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night. The pain pills were administered to Owens after he underwent surgery for a broken right ring finger September 18.

Owens' publicist, Kim Etheredge, called 911 on Tuesday when it appeared to her that Owens was "not coherent" and "not in a normal responsive state."

Owens was treated by paramedics and rushed to Baylor Medical Center. He was released from the hospital Wednesday morning and even attended practice in the afternoon, catching passes from quarterbacks Drew Bledsoe and Tony Romo before meeting the media.

"I just finished working out outside and throwing with Drew," Owens said. "Then Romo threw some at me. I feel very capable of playing on Sunday."

Owens was remarkably calm and smiled throughout the news conference, which capped a wild night and day for him and the Cowboys.

The firestorm started when WFAA, citing a police account, reported that Owens ingested prescription pain pills in an attempt to commit suicide. Rescue personnel called to the scene observed that Owens' prescription bottle was empty.

According to the report, the account stated that Owens was asked if he had attempted to harm himself and responded, "Yes." When asked about that during the news conference, Owens admitted to vaguely remembering the discussion before being taken to the hospital.

"I wasn't as coherent as they (medical personnel) thought I was," Owens said. "I don't even remember the police officers or the doctors that were in there, much less any questions."

Dallas police stated that the case was not being treated as a criminal offense. It is not a crime in Texas for a person to attempt suicide.

Cowboys coach Bill Parcells met the media after Wednesday's practice and was met with a barrage of questions regarding Owens. He said he had spoken briefly with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about Owens but repeatedly maintained he did not have enough information to comment about the incident.

"When I find out what the hell's going on, you will know," Parcells said before leaving the podium. "Until then, I'm not being interrogated."

But Owens clarified what had happened less than an hour later in the same room. He also denied that he was depressed.

"No, I'm not depressed," Owens said. "I'm very happy to be here (in Dallas) and want to help this organization get to where it wants to be."

Etheredge also addressed the media and denied a report that she took pills out of Owens' mouth before calling 911.

"I didn't take anything out of his mouth," Etheredge said. "And I never said he was depressed. I don't know where that came from. The bottom line is I called 911 because he was not responding to my questions and I'm glad I did."

One of the NFL's premier receivers on the field, Owens has been a major distraction off the field. The Cowboys are getting a taste of that but clearly knew what they were in for, although this story trumps all the others.

Owens played just seven games with the Philadelphia Eagles last season before the club banished him for conduct detrimental to the team.

In just his second year with the Eagles, Owens publicly criticized numerous members of the organization - including star quarterback Donovan McNabb. He was fined numerous times for tardiness and reportedly was involved in a fight with former Eagle Hugh Douglas in the locker room.

Before that with the San Francisco 49ers, Owens criticized quarterback Jeff Garcia and offensive coordinator Greg Knapp before demanding a trade.

San Francisco satisfied his wish, sending him to Baltimore for a draft pick, but Owens demanded to be traded to Philadelphia and eventually got his wish.

Signed to a three-year, $25 million contract in the offseason by Dallas, Owens missed most of the Cowboys' preseason practices and all but one exhibition game due to a hamstring injury.

Owens returned for the Cowboys' regular-season opener vs. Jacksonville, catching six passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. He suffered the broken finger early in the game against Washington on September 17 and played through the pain before leaving late in the fourth quarter.

Last week, Owens said he planned to be in uniform when the Cowboys visit Philadelphia on October 8. He also was considering suiting up this weekend, when Dallas travels to Tennessee.

In 144 career games with San Francisco, Philadelphia and Dallas, Owens has 725 catches for 10,634 yards and 102 touchdowns. He has nine receptions for 99 yards and a score in two contests this year.
Owens is a nutcase whichever way you look at it!

Re: Terrell Owens Suicide Attempt Overdose

i heard at work today on ESPN Radio all his past teams basically begged him to get mental treatment

id say after last night her proved he needs it

suicide attempt or misunderstanding or publicity stunt i really think he needs to spemd some time with a therapist that isnt a yes man

even if it is just to completely clear himself

dont you think the Cowboys might want to have him checked out ?

Re: Terrell Owens Suicide Attempt Overdose

He said it was a reaction from the prescribed pain killers and his nutritional supplements. He didn't overdose or anything like that.

The media loves to keep Owens in the news, good or bad, and the majority of the time, they paint him in a bad light.

Re: Terrell Owens Suicide Attempt Overdose

Maybe, just maybe, Owens legitimately has an adverse reaction to his meds and the police were the ones who messed it up. You think? Like Empire said elsewhere, if he was a suicide risk, he wouldn't have been released from the hospital. Owens today told reporters "not depressed about anything... I was kind of out of it. I can barely even remember the doctors, much less the police officers asking me questions." He also pronounced himself ready to play on Sunday. What do you guys think of the situation, as it stands now?

in the words of Billy Joel...

I'm not above doing anything
To restore your faith if I can
Some people see through the eyes of the old
Before they ever get look at the young
I'm only willing to hear you cry
Because I am an innocent man
Oh yes I am

Cool Re: Terrell Owens Suicide Attempt Overdose

The guy definitely has serious issues but it's pretty obvious that it was just a big misunderstanding. He mixed wrong medications - His agent/lover saw the empty pill bottle and took action - which was the right thing to do. Better be safe than sorry. Then the story took on a life of its own from a frenized media.

His agent/lover said one very moronic thing. She said he has "25 million reasons not to commit suicide." Someone should tell that genius that plenty of rich people kill themselves. Freddie Prinze, Hugh O'Connor, etc....Emotional distress doesn't discriminate.

She was saying it in a "I have a stake in all that money sense of the word"...as in..."He better not kill himself, I do not have half of the pie yet."...that knid of thing
