| Huskie’s Defense Returns 8 Starters Last year, UConn had the 14th best scoring defense in the nation (19 points a game) and was 17th against the pass (194 yards); the total defense was 37th out of 119 Division I-A schools. The stats will tell you the UConn defense can be a bear with big claws. But the film and, better yet, the eyes will tell you more. They'll tell you the Huskies had a formidable defense last season, with players that hit like the flu. But they'll also tell you that big plays cost UConn in every loss, and in victory, too. One can only imagine how good the UConn defense could have been if it weren't for momentary breakdowns and lapses in focus. Eight starters return. Butler and senior defensive end Cody Brown will captain the unit, but UConn coach Randy Edsall said he is depending on safety Dahna Deleston to help in the back, along with senior end Julius Williams and senior tackle Rob Lunn up front. The leadership at linebacker, Edsall said, has to come from Lloyd and Brookfield sophomore Scott Lutrus, a freshman All-American who had 107 tackles last year. Will "big plays" be a factor in this UConn team again for the 2008 season? Story
