The University of Connecticut became the second-fastest team to join the
Football Bowl Subdivision, formerly NCAA Division I-A, and crack the Top 25. The Huskies (7-1, 3-0 Big East) made their debut at No. 16 in this week's Associated Press poll. UConn just joined the FBS in 2002, and it took five years and 10 weeks to get ranked. Marshall joined I-A in 1997 and was ranked after two years and four weeks.
UConn coach Randy Edsall said the Huskies have experienced success by not looking for a quick fix.
"The biggest thing is you have a plan that you put in place, and what you do is you stick your guns," he said. "You keep your eyes looking straight ahead. You don't look back, you don't look to the side, you just keep moving forward."
