Jim Calhoun 500th win

According to the Associated Press, "Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun picked up his 500th win at the school Monday, a 67-60 victory over Syracuse and longtime rival and friend Jim Boeheim... Calhoun has a career mark of 500-185 at UConn and is 748-322 in his 35-year Hall of Fame coaching career, good enough for 12th place on the Division I all-time wins list." So how does Calhoun compare, in your mind, to some of the all-time great college basketball coaches?

Cool Re: Jim Calhoun 500th win

You know, I would have to put him in my top 10 of all time. He's put together one of the premier programs in the country the last decade.

Let's see: ahead of him you automatically would have;

1. Wooden
2. Coach K
3. Dean Smith
4. Knight

Although I might be forgetting some, I think after that, anybody you mention is arguable.

Re: Jim Calhoun 500th win

I live in Connecticut and Calhoun can do no wrong here. He is definitely ahead of Boeheim and Roy Williams in my book, and I would put him ahead of John Thompson as well, since he's won one more title than he did with arguably lesser talent,at least at center. You could easily slide him into the number five spot all-time and then defend him in an argument.
