Columbus takes Detroit to a Shootout

DETROIT (AP) -- Tomas Holmstrom scored the only goal of a five-round shootout to lift the Red Wings to a 6-5 win over the Blue Jackets on Friday night.

Rick Nash recorded his first career hat trick and Mark Hartigan and Dan Fritsche added a goal and an assist each for Columbus.

Just after the Blue Jackets pulled goalie Marc Denis for an extra attacker, Nash scored from the slot after an unsuccessful clearing attempt by Kronwall. His 29th goal tied it 5-5 and completed the hat trick with 32.1 seconds left in regulation.

Hey after beating the Wings a few days back with a massive rally in the 3rd period, these gritty Blue Jackets almost pulled it off...what a game huh? Nash gets his hat trick to tie it. The Shoot out goes a few rounds...and these are the might Wings...anyone want to tell me how lousy these Blue Jackets are now? ...Gotta believe baby!

Errrr...Marc Denis fails us again! Should have beaten em. NASH with first hat trick of his career and we still lose

Surprised to see Vyborny tonight but he is tuff...

Ever-resilient Vyborny will play tonight

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Right winger David Vyborny skated for a second straight day yesterday, then declared himself healthy enough to play at 7:30 tonight against the Detroit Red Wings.
"I was lucky, for sure," Vyborny said.
Vyborny suffered a charley horse in his right leg after a collision with Nashville defenseman Brendan Witt midway through the first period Monday.
Witt extended his right leg as he and Vyborny crossed paths near center ice, his knee slamming into Vyborny’s right thigh.
It was a scary sight, with Vyborny spinning in the air almost 360 degrees before he landed face first on the ice. He lay motionless for a few seconds.
"If he hit my knee, I’m probably out for the rest of the season," Vyborny said. "Good thing I saw him at the last second.
"It didn’t feel very good. I was just thinking to myself, ‘Good thing it’s not a knee.’ "
Witt was suspended for one game by the NHL.
Coach Gerard Gallant has counted his blessings the past two days.
Vyborny leads the Blue Jackets with 55 points (18 goals, 37 assists).
"When he went down, I thought he was done," Gallant said. "MCL, ACL . . . whatever it was, I thought he was done.
"That’s David, though. It’s a credit to him. I don’t know if it’s his conditioning or what, but he doesn’t get hurt very much, and when he does he’s not out of the lineup much at all. He’s a reliable guy."
Vyborny said the leg was a little stiff yesterday. He rode a stationary bike after practice to keep it loose. Still, he expects to be close to 100 percent tonight, when the Blue Jackets try for a seventh straight win. "I might dump the puck in more than usual," Vyborny said. "I’ll play it safe for a few games, maybe, but I’ll be OK."

Hey Stinger welcome back to the Forum...good recaps on the injury to Vyborny. Those darn Predators are taking their name too seriously.

Followed the hockey scoreboard last night - good for the Jackets. The replacement Fritsche scored. Shootout, scmootout - I hate that - in overtime, you could have killed the old guys.

Yeah, I know...but I didn't want to sound cocky about my team...I was going for a "Mats Sundin Humble-ish" type of post...

Apparently Mats said
"That sucks"
after the shootout loss to Boston the other night.
Huge display of emotion never seen before.
