The Columbus Blue Jackets have fired president and general manager Doug MacLean, a source told the Canadian Press on Wednesday.

The 53-year-old was relieved of his duties after the Blue Jackets stumbled to a 33-42-7 record this season, good for 11th in the Western Conference. MacLean, the only president and general manager in franchise history, enjoyed little success during his tenure. The Blue Jackets were 172-258-62 all-time under MacLean, and are the only NHL franchise to have never reached the post-season.

The Blue Jackets appeared ready to post their first winning season after setting franchise records for wins (35) and points (74) in a season in 2005-'06. Columbus posted a 23-16-2 record over the second half of that season, but the momentum failed to carry over into 2006-'07.

Can't say I'm surprised... there was some playoff talk about the Blue Jackets. I was riding Nash-mania after last season, thanks to Gotham's efforts. And then Columbus kind of coughs up a hairball this season. Some changes needed to be made, so why not start at the top?

Abandoned?...I am fixing my resume to send them...they need me!...I am creative, have general management experience (okay, so its for an Engineering company...what's the differenc)...and kicked butt in the GTG hockey regular season...they really need me...

I'd go with a Euro front line (3 lines deep)...good skaters and puck handlers...and then used nasty American/ Canadian backliners to protect them...

Then I would go to New Zealand and take with me some Hasek DNA and try to clone the "human slinky"...though I am not sure how much they can speed up the growth...

After that I would open the ice up on the home court by 10 feet on each side of the boards...my Euro's need to skate...

Okay, then, in each players contract their would be a clause that every time they go +/- minus 2 on ice for the night, their game salary would go into a lotto for fans that were at the game that night.

How's that for starters?...
