Rockies signed RHP Aaron Cook to a four-year contract through 2011 with a mutual option for 2012.
It's essentially a three-year, $30 million extension, but the Rockies are including his already scheduled 2008 salary and calling it a four-year, $34.5 million contract. Despite his ugly strikeout rate, Cook is a pretty good bet going forward, and he fits especially well in Coors Field because of his excellent sinker. With a healthy 2008, we imagine he would have received at least $50 million for five years as a free agent next winter.
