Colorado columnist Milo F. Bryant penned a good column Saturday night discussing the Colorado Rockies resurgence this year. Sadly, there are three other good teams in the NL West. The Rockies may top their best record (82-80 in 2000) and still not make the playoffs.
Some excerpts...
Quote:
The Rockies can only blame themselves for late-season losses to lousy teams.
So again, officially, the Rockies still have a glimmer of a chance to make some postseason noise. But in the interest of keeping it real, it’s getting dark on the Rockies’ season.
Save for a miracle run by the home team and a simultaneous collapse by the division and/or wild card leaders, the Rockies will be home for the early fall again.
The division and wild card leaders are simply too far ahead.
Nobody associated with the Rockies would admit as much, nor should they. But, making it to the wild card is all but out of reach. And Hurdle, while not conceding, was reflective before the game, about the season that several players have had. But he also talked about the future, too, which gives this season a sense of mortality.

It would be nice to see some fresh faces in the playoffs, but it looks like it would take a sort of miracle for the Rockies to pass by three other teams in the division.
