Rockies 3B Garrett Atkins had a career day yesterday in Colorado's 19-4 thrashing of the Brewers. Atkins went 4-for-4 with two doubles and drove in a total of six runs on the evening. As a team, the Rockies exploded for 19 runs on 23 hits, both just one away from franchise records. For the season, Atkins is hitting .283 with 17 home runs and 82 RBI. Is this kid a star in the making?

If you can believe it, he is having a down year. He has been averaging around .300 the last few years. He started off very slow, so his power numbers will be down. He has been hitting the ball a lot better lately.

No kidding? He's been pretty quiet nationally to be enjoying so much success. People writing him off as a product of Coors Field?

I think that may have been it, but he hit with more power away last year. I got lucky and needed a 3B replacement his rookie year. I saw he had a good game and figured he was hot. He has been my starter since then.
