Okay, after doing a little research, here's what i found out...
The last to do it was
Gil Coan, a .254 lifetime hitter who mostly played for the pitiful Washington Senators of the 1940s and 1950s, in 1953. His baseball card used to be one of the treasures of my collection, it was so old...
Al Zarilla is the only guy to achieve the feat in the American League. He led the league in triples twice and played on the legendary 1944 St. Louis Browns.
That's it. It's a tough search. I suspect, given the American League stat above, that many of these incidents occurred in the freewheeling low-homer 19th century...
I'd like to say here that i'm just so proud of Sullivan and all the Rockies...but what was up with Sullivan's post-game quote?
"It's always good to have things that happen only once every 55 years..."
Huh?
Cheers.
