Veteran left-handed reliever Tom Martin could be at the end of his career. The Rockies designated Martin for assignment after their 5-4, 10-inning loss to Washington in which he walked two of the three batters he faced. Right-handed reliever Ramon Ramirez was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
The Rockies have 10 days to dispose of Martin's contract.
If he clears waivers, Martin indicated retirement is a viable alternative.
"Sometimes in everybody's career he has to make a decision," said Martin.
Martin had a 4.91 ERA in 26 appearances with the Rockies, but more than that lefthanded hitters were 11-for-38 against him and walked four left-handed hitters, and hit another one with a pitch.
Ramirez, who appeared in 61 games with the Rockies last year, opened this season in the big leagues but was sent down after 15 appearances in which he had a 10.22 ERA. With Colorado Srpings he had a 2.49 ERA in 20 appearances, striking out 27 in 21 2/3 innings.
