| Rox Jolt Giants With Grand Slam in 14th Inning - Dodgers Up Next Rox Jolt Giants With Grand Slam in 14th Inning Ryan Spilborghs (19) arrives home a bona fide hero Monday night after his grand slam in the 14th inning gave the NL wild card-leading Rockies a 6-4 victory over the Giants in a Coors Field thriller. (Karl Gehring, The Denver Post) These are the types of games you expect in October, not August. For three straight days, the Rockies and Giants played as if there were bunting hanging from the rafters and frost on the grass. Urgency assaulted the senses. And mistakes tested common sense. It came down to this — it was one of the most dramatic swings Colorado has seen not involving the playoffs. Ryan Spilborghs hit the first walkoff grand slam in Rockies history, providing the difference in an improbable 6-4 win at Coors Field in 14 innings. "I went from zero to hero," Spilborghs said. "I just wanted to go home at that point. It was surreal." Spilborghs raced around the bases as if he were Usain Bolt, his own lightning bolt ending one. After 15 pitchers, 14 innings and a mind-boggling 43 baserunners, the Rockies won in a national pastime game past everyone's bedtime. With the win, the Rockies moved four games ahead of the Giants in the wild-card standings, practically begging San Francisco to write a rough draft of its playoff eulogy. The win moved the Rockies to within three games of the Dodgers entering tonight's opener of a much-anticipated series at bleary-eyed Coors Field.
