Colorado football coach Dan Hawkins prides himself on being wise enough to learn from his mistakes and the errors of others.
One of the most common missteps he has seen throughout more than 20 years of coaching is the notion that a team can simply pick up right where it left off the previous year. Hawkins never takes that approach regardless of how many experienced players are returning.
He starts from the very beginning each year when spring practices arrive, teaching the most fundamental elements of the game to his players and expanding from there. It's how he plans to attack his third spring in Boulder when practices begin March 17 and run just over a month to the spring game April 19 in Folsom Field.
