BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Wojtek Wolski scored the go-ahead goal 1:41 into the third period, extending the Colorado Avalanche's winning streak to five games with a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night.

Paul Stastny set up two goals to extend his point streak to 17 games and match an NHL rookie record set in 1993 by Winnipeg's Teemu Selanne. Milan Hejduk had a goal and assist, and Brett McLean also scored for the Avalanche, who are on their best roll since winning eight straight midway through last season.

The ninth-place Avalanche (34-29-5) moved to within six points of idle Minnesota for the Western Conference's final playoff spot, and won their fourth straight road game. It's the team's longest streak since winning four in a row in January 2004.

well good 4 colorado cuz they need all the points that they can get right now while were (buffalo) in first and have no worries of missing the playoffs. i just have some things to say about the sabres - avalanche game on wednesday. i wuz lucky (or not lucky) 2 b there 2 c it and i thought that after the first goal by paestch that thigns would be going just how i expected - the sabres would of course come on top and score about 10 goals. but then the worst thing happened - a shorthanded goal. it seemed like after that none of the players had a will to play nemore. now remember this is a team that has come back from being 2 goals behind to win eight times this season so with these guys u can never give up. unfortunately that game wuz a first. sure they scored another goal and the game was tight until the end of regulation but u wouldnt no it if u didnt c the game - it was awful. colorados defense didnt let buffalo get on their game 4 the whole duration and it was painful 2 c colorado keep it in the buffalo zone 4 nearly 5 minutes at a time. it was a very uncharacteristic game of the sabres, but im not going to get ridiculously mad about it cuz i no that not every team is going to play a good game every night. i mean colorado is desperate and they had the stronger drive to win - and they did. im expecting that tonite the sabres play much better against the wild, cuz if they dont, there r going 2 b a lot of upset fans u can count to that
