Karlis Skrastins, who has been nicknamed Scratch by teammates, will break the alltime defenceman record tomorrow night - previously held by icon and beloved Tim Horton - for most consecutive games played with 487.
The longest consecutive games played by any player is 964, by Doug jarvis. He broke Gary Unger's record of 914.
Way to go, Scratch. Took some time. That's some record.

As the AP is reporting, "Karlis Skrastins of the Colorado Avalanche had his NHL-record consecutive-games streak among defensemen snapped Sunday night at 495 when he sat out against Anaheim because of a knee injury... Skrastins, who broke Tim Horton's mark of 486 on Feb. 8 against Atlanta, was hurt during Saturday night's 5-4 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings... The 32-year-old defenseman hadn't missed a game since Feb. 18, 2000, when he was with the Nashville Predators, and his run started three days later against Dallas." Think anyone will ever break his record?

See that's like saying Steve Garvey played in over 1300 straight games, when Lou and Cal have gone passed 2100 (as did some dude in the Japanese league)...its like...cool...but not so close....of course Defensemen log more ice time...maybe he has the record based on logged ice time.
