| Re: ASU QB Sam Keller quits team Stunning, but the team will be okay.
Sophomore Rudy Carpenter took over for Keller when he got injured, and went on to lead the nation with a passer rating of 175.01. Carpenter played in nine games, completing 68.4% of his passes for 2,273 yards, 17 touchdowns and 2 picks. Keller, meanwhile, completed just 58.7% of his attempts for 2,165 yards, 20 scores and 9 INTs in eight games.
In fact, after reading that article, I'm convinced this was the right move. "According to the East Valley Tribune, several players requested a meeting with Koetter after the initial decision," it reads, "and told the coach they believed the job should go to Carpenter." So Carpenter, not Keller, was the guy who had the support of his teammates, eh? No wonder the senior wants to transfer. |
