this year it seems the SEC may be a tad overrated

sure they beat up on each other .... but the also just plain got beat up .... LSU - Tenn. - Georgia and Auburn all had high hopes and fell dismally short ..... that leaves us with Florida and Alabama

Alabama ...... the only teams they beat that are still ranked are Georgia #16 and Mississippi #20 ..... they lost to Florida and Utah .... if the Tide impress you i say you are easily impressed

Florida ..... the only ranked teams they beat were Georgia (major disappointment) and Alabama (we just discussed how overrated they are) .... they lost to #20 Mississippi ...... in the Championship we shall see if they can save any face at all for themselves and the SEC .. or if they are a joke like the rest

Florida will easily beat Oklahoma. Sooners haven't faced a good defense since TCU early in the season, and TCU doesn't have the type of offense Florida has. I am not a fan of either team, so I am without any bias when I make my pick.....Florida beats Oklahoma by 10 or more!

I think they are overrated, not because they're not a good conference but because we hear so much about how nobody's even in the same league, then they go 5-2 in Bowl Games. Clearly in 2008 the best football conference is the Pac 10 -- five teams in bowl games and all of them won.

That was more of a case of Utah being underrated! 13-0 isn't a fluke!

LSU lost a butt load of seniors last year. Everyone forgets this year is a rebuilding year. I think next year will be a better season with the addition of some great committals plus Chavis as our defensive coordinator. I will say it was embarrassing seeing the gamecocks getting beat like they did by Iowa. Also seeing Bama get their jock handed to them was pretty nice. I don't care if the SEC teams get beat in the bowl games as long as it is not LSU.

I'm not saying it was a fluke, but folks here, well, some, had the trophy already engraved with Bamas name.

I don't care one way or the other, but that is a fact.

All we heard about was the the SEC, Bama is particular, was the greatest ever.

If you don't win it all, you're not. It was just a bunch of hot air!

Just like a reg NFL season. No title with a great reg season = choke, fluke, or over rated.

I'll let others decided with of the three it is.

The SEC was not strong as usual. I wasn't totally impressed with Bama, especially since Kentucky gave them so many problems. However, you'll have to give me more than a great bowl record to make for a great conference. Pac-10 schedule was weak. And please, no one mention Big 10, I mean pathetic. Ohio State loses another BCS game. They didn't take the thumpin from Texas like they did from Florida and LSU, but they still lost... again.

SEC overrated let me count the ways - Fla playing for (and likely winning) the MNC. UGA (survivor of a staggering number of injuries) the third or fourth best team in the conference beat the # 3 team from the Big 10 ( the #1 & 2 teams also lost ), LSU the #5 team in the SEC beat (make that pounded) the ACC Coastal Division co-champion, Vandy the #6 team in the SEC won, Ol Miss (9 -4) the # 4 team in the SEC beat the # 3 Big 12 team (11 - 2) (who beat Texas), Kentucky won, SC lost and Bama layed a big egg (not because they were not good - the Utes are a damn good football team).

Show me a conference that sends its # 5 - 7 teams to bowl games and wins.

I agree they were overrated this year but next year will be an interesting year with the influx of new coaches.

I was very impressed with Ole Miss and LSU dominating in their bowl games. Georgia won their bowl game but I wasn't that impressed with them.

Still, I don't think too many teams want to play SEC schools in a non-conference game.

I wish one of the SEC teams had the guts to schedule USC in an early season match up. I don't think there would be any takers.

I shouldn't have put my comment so bluntly. What I really meant is that I would like to see SEC blend a top 10 out of conference matchup early in their season more. Auburn matched up with West Virginia when WV was in their prime. It would be nice to see more games like that.

Maybe a Oklahoma or Texas vs. SEC team early in the year; something like that would be good.

2003 USC went to Auburn and won 20-3. Played Arkansas in 2005 and 2006, put 70 points on them in 2005 and they annihilated Arkansas 50-14 in Arkansas in 2006, Arkansas went on to play in the 2006 SEC Title game . Maybe you should check your facts before making yourself look bad. USC will play at Ohio State next year, we never see SEC teams go to Columbus.

Big East - Connecticut finished fifth and beat Buffalo
Big 12 - Kansas was sixth in the conference and beat Minnesota
Pac 10 - Arizona was fifth in the conference and beat a ranked BYU team
ACC - Wake Forest finished fourth in the ACC Atlantic Division and beat Navy

And that's just this year. It's not all that hard to believe that a 5-7 team in a conference can pull out a bowl-game win.

Exactly. USC isn't exactly quaking in fear of the SEC. I'm sure they'd love a shot at Florida (or Oklahoma) right now.
