Re: Which SEC Coaches are on the Hot Seat

So according to them, the only guy in danger of losing his job is Fulmer. Which is silly, because he just re-upped. I bet Spurrier will retire. Tuberville better have a 10 win season or I think he's in danger. Meyer and Saban could feel some heat if their team underperform, but on the whole, the coaching situation in the SEC seems pretty stable IMO.

Did you read the Fulmer piece? Seems like he is wearing out his welcome even though he has won 76% of his games. College football is crazy with all the alumni coaching from the backseat.

That is a pretty good website for killing time. I was going to do all the conferences but ran out of time. Maybe somebody will do their favorite conference in another thread.

Yeah, but my point is... if he's wearing out his welcome, then why did the University just extend him?
Vols to give Fulmer a 7-year extension - Because of this, I'm pretty confident he's in no danger of losing his job this year.

I agree but.......... I guess we will know soon enough.

The Meyer piece was interesting with the difference if he had gone to N.D. instead of Florida.

The SEC is a meat grinder for coaches and I think we have seen the best of times. Some of the really good coaches will likely leave in the next year or two. I think "The Evil One" will be the first one to hang it up - South Carolina is a tough place to win.

Re: Which SEC Coaches are on the Hot Seat

None are on the hot seat. SEC is full of coaches who have won national champioships. Either at the school they are now or another team they quit or was lured away to coach in the SEC.

Does anyone know who on that list is a national champion at one time. Its scary the SEC has so many good coaches

Re: Which SEC Coaches are on the Hot Seat

None are on the hotseat right now, but plenty could be by the end of the year. Saban, for one, needs a winning record at least to prove he's making progress with the program and to justify his salary. Fulmer could theoretically be in trouble if the Vols lay a massive egg, say four wins (but as I said before, I seriously doubt it). And with the high expectations in Auburn, I could see Tuberville catching some heat should that program underperform in 2008.

Re: Which SEC Coaches are on the Hot Seat

I couldn't begin to speculate how this season will unfold. I do know the SEC is the toughest on coaches. A coach could get fired for a record that most schools would love to have. If a coach can succeed in the SEC he can write his own ticket anywhere even the pros if he so chooses.

Looking at the salary charts here I would say they can stay in college football and write their own ticket.

I totally agree with Chuck here. I will say who I think is pretty safe right now and that is Urban Meyer (he just won a BCS championship a couple years ago) and Rich Brooks (who turned an awful program around, just extended his contract). Every other coach is vunerable if they have a bad year in 2008.
