| PAC 10 Commissioner to retire! Great news PAC 10 Fans! Tom Hansen, has announced he is stepping down as commissioner of the PAC 10 conference! The bad news is this won't happen until July of 2009. I know a lot of PAC 10 fans are not happy with his job and I for one wish he would have retired years ago. He has came out heavy and voted against every playoff, screwed the PAC 10 when two of their teams should have played for national championship in football and didn't defend them whatsoever and has really did a horrible job of getting the PAC 10 decent Cable/TV contracts. I and many will be happy to see this jerk gone. I am biasly hoping Bill Moos, former Duck AD, gets the job. I believe him to always have been a supporter of college football playoff from past interviews. Here is an article from an Oregonlive blog that confirms this: Out goes Hansen, in comes ... Moos? Posted by John Hunt, The Oregonian June 12, 2008 07:50AM Categories: Football When the Pac-10 Conference announced this week that commissioner Tom Hansen will step down as of July 1, 2009, speculation sprouted in Eugene of a possible successor with Ducks ties. "At this point, I'd have to say probably not,'' said Bill Moos, reached on his ranch in eastern Washington. Moos was Oregon's athletic director from 1995 until last year, leaving after he was bought out of his contract. Pac-10 presidents will form a search committee to find a new commissioner, and Moos certainly didn't shoot the idea down entirely. Hansen, 70, cited age and a rigorous travel schedule as reasons for his departure after 26 years. For now, Moos' biggest concern, at his ranch south of Spokane, is the cool, wet spring. Hair still there after 26 years Ready to wear another hat?

In response that the PAC 10 has weak non-conference schedules? I totally disagree with this as ESPN, Sporting News and Fox Sports have all wrote recent articles ranking the PAC 10 as scheduling the toughest non-league schedules in the country yearly. Last year may have been the exception to this rule though. When scheduling is done Simon, it is usually done 5-10 yrs in advance with exceptions. PAC 10 teams annually have tried to schedule the toughest teams in the country if they are willing to do a home and home contract. For example, last year Wash Huskies played Ohio State...national championship runner up...USC plays them this year. Oregon played and ripped Michigan...who traditionally is good. WSU Cougars played Georgia I believe on road. California played and beat Tennessee. Notre Dame played 3 PAC 10 teams including UCLA, Stanford and USC. Granted...ND was terrible last year but nobody knew this years ago when doing scheduling. Like USC playing Nebraska last year where the Cornhuskers were king for so many years, were bad last year. Cheers! |
