ESPN's Bill Curry Returns to Coaching

After seeing mixed success as a head coach for Georgia Tech, Alabama, and Kentucky, Bill Curry found a home at ESPN. The former NFL offensive lineman and longtime coach spent ten years with the Worldwide Leader, serving primarily as a college football game and studio analyst.

The itch to coach, however, has returned for the 65-year-old Curry, and he's going back. Curry will be named the first head football coach in Georgia State history Thursday. The Atlanta-based school is starting up a football program in 2010. They'll compete in Division I-AA (er, FCS) and play home games at the Georgia Dome.

Re: ESPN's Bill Curry Returns to Coaching

Very interesting. I'll miss hearing some of his old stories, especially on Mike & Mike in the Morning. I wish him all the best in his return to coaching, though. He's obviously a very wise, very thoughtful individual with a lot of good knowledge to share with these young men. I think he'll do well. I sure hope he does at any rate.

Will Georgia State join the ACC or the BIG EAST or SEC?

You're kidding, right? A better question is, will they be able to win a game or two in their first year of organized football?

Actually the school has between 35000-45000 students in downtown Atlanta. It is only a matter of when they will win ball games. The school is a lot like South Florida.

I think Bill should have stayed where he was at...in the booth. He was a really good coach back in the day but at the age of 65, I think it is time to relax and take a vacation...

WHOA!

As an Alabama fan I call "BS" Bill Curry had the talent to win win in 1990 and failed to bring home the hard ware. He was a terrible play caller and failed to make proper adjustments when his schemes were exploited. When he was at Kentucky he showed us exactly how brilliant he was by posting losing records. In the booth he sounds like he knows what he is talking about. On the field it is a different story.

Pink Floyd had a song "Just another BRICK in the wall"
Alabama fans will know what I'm talking about.

I stand corrected Stoney. I had forgotten he was at Alabama years ago and didn't get the job done which is even more of a reason for this guy to stay in the booth...LOL

you were being nice, right about being a good coach He was 34-43-4 at GT, he had one winning season (6-5)at kentucky out of 7, he was however 26-10 at ALABAMA, where HE said anyone could coach, because when the players put on the Crimson Jersey, ordinary players become extraordinary!
