College Football Hall of Fame: Class of 2008

Troy Aikman and Lou Holtz lead the 2008 inductees into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Rounding out the class, according to the AP, "The other 10 players chosen by the National Football Foundation’s selection committee were Virginia tackle Jim Dombrowski, Northwestern linebacker Pat Fitzgerald, Florida linebacker Wilber Marshall, Washington State running back Rueben Mayes, Arizona State guard Randall McDaniel, Wyoming tight end Jay Novacek, Texas Tech wide receiver Dave Parks, Florida State nose tackle Ron Simmons, Oklahoma State running back Thurman Thomas and Army quarterback Arnold Tucker... The other coach elected was John Cooper, who recorded 192 victories in 24-year career at Ohio State, Arizona State and Tulsa."

Great news for ex-viking Randall McDaniel! He was a heck of a lineman in his days with the Vikings. Also glad to hear that for Thurman Thomas, always one of my favorites during the 90's and I wore his number during my early years in football.

What did Cooper do to make it. He had to be a better player than he was a coach.

He had a good run from 93 to 98, but that is a bit of a head scratcher seeing as how he never won a championship.

Yeah... I look at John Cooper, and I struggle to find a coach whose teams underachieved more than his did. OSU should have won one, maybe two National Titles under him. No way he should be a Hall of Famer. Glad to see a lot of these guys make it, though: Holtz, Aikman, Thurman, Wilber Marshall, Novacek, Randall McDaniel, Ron Simmons... all worthy inductees, no doubt about it.
