| South Alabama closing in on first coach Report indicates South Alabama has offered football position to James Madison coach Wednesday, February 13, 2008 By KIM SHUGART Sports Reporter The University of South Alabama is expected to name its first head football coach by Friday, just in time to be included in this weekend's homecoming activities. Indications are USA has narrowed its choices to James Madison head coach Mickey Matthews, Birmingham-Southern head coach Joey Jones or Clemson assistant head coach Dabo Swinney. The Richmond (Va.)
