Best conference?

SEC? big 10? big 12? ACC? pac-10? big east?

i was havin this conversation with my uncle yesterdayt and he thinks its the big 10 (mainly cuz he's from michigan) but i think its the SEC. so he says "then you dont you have a natl' championship contender?" maybe because its too hard to go undefeated or only lose 1 game when you schedule looks like this:

tennessee
florida
alabama
auburn
georgia
lsu
kentucky
arkansas
ole miss
south carolina

then i point out the neutering osu received at the hands of the gators. i understand the sec doesnt have a million heisman winners like other conferences but there's a 1 in a million chance of having a big game against every one of those teams and the rest of the SEC teams.

add to that the face that the big ten is highly overrated and cant even handle a team like app. state. and that i think 4 or 5 big 10 teams were ranked in the pre-season and only 1 or 2 managed to make it this far compared to 5 or 6 SEC teams bein ranked in the pre-season and all of em still bein still ranked. everyone was still kissin ohio state's ass until they met a real team in illiniois who not only beat them but beat them soundly in the horseshoe. yea lsu lost 2 games but atleast they had the heart to take it to the limit in triple overtime and the unranked arkansas that beat them the second time is WAY better than the unranked illinios that beat ohio state. the only other teams that could hang in the SEC are oklahoma, texas, usc, clemson, and virginia tech

but thats just me . wat yall think is the strongest conference?

Re: Best conference?

Oh, no. Not again...

Sorry, Geechee, I'm just kidding around. It's just that this topic comes up quite a bit around here.

SEC Fans Pissed About Possible Ohio State Cakewalk to Title Game

BCS is Bad for the SEC

Those are two of the more recent threads. You might want to check them out.

Now, to actually answer your question - I do actually believe that the SEC is the best conference right now. It's not by a whole lot, though. I take issue with people who believe that the SEC is light years ahead of the Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, etc. I think that some of the non-conference losses suffered by SEC teams this year and in last years bowl games proves that fact. Were I to rank them right now, at this very moment, I'd probably go SEC, Big 12, Pac-10 then Big Ten.

Re: Best conference?

dam i didnt even know about those posts. but think about it, bit 10 fans would say the same thing if they had to play a conference championship game against a decent team and any SEC team got a cakewalk to the national championship game. yea i know the big ten went 2-1 in bowl games but lost the only bowl game that really mattered.

lets face it- 5 out of 12 SEC teams are offensive and defensive juggernauts everyyear (lsu, florida, tennessee, georgia, alabama). and the other 7 show up 80% of the time. add that to the fact that auburn went undefeated a few years ago and still never got to play in tht title game. compared to the big 10 where ohio state is "good" everyyear. michigan shows up for a couple games and thats' pretty much it. its so predictable. yet somehow you guys luck up and end up with one of the big 10 teams getting a jv schedule and playin some **** ass team in the title game. then big ten fans wanna talk about how good they are cuz tehy got a title. and in the bowl games you guys did win last year-is not like you played one of the SEC flagship teams like florida or lsu. that would be like lsu destroyin northwestern or penn state or some other slack school and braggin about it.

Re: Best conference?

I think the true measure of a conference is not so much wins or losses but the number of players that move on to the NFL.

Not always. Look at Tom Brady - one of the best QBs in the NFL right now, but in college, he had to battle with Brian Griese and Drew Henson just to start at Michigan. And what about a kid like Willie Parker, wasted down at UNC? Coaches sometimes are quite good at wasting talent like this, and it's hard to give the Big Ten and the ACC credit for these two players when their collegiate careers could've been so much more.

That is my point they are playing at the next level - and they came from a specific conference - so that conference gets to claim them. I'm not talking about what they accomplished or didn't accomplish in college but rather that they made the next level. That is the measure of a conference.

UGA has a QB (Joe Cox check him out) riding the pines that could start for alomost anybody and he will likely get a shot at the NFL.

Re: Best conference?

yea i guess if you wanna look at it like that since players like aikman came from the big 12 and platyed a season in the pac-10 or how irvin came from the acc, harrison came from the big east

but how can you judge a conference by wat their players are doing in the nfl ? thats like judging aa nfl team on wat their players did in college

Re: Best conference?

The SEC is the best conference for one simple reason. Speed. The game is played a bit faster in the SEC.

Re: Best conference?

JRL...are you serious? After todays atrocious performance by both 1 & 2 and both LSU AND Georgia being in the hunt, I think we have a winner. FWIW, UF had the most active players in the NFL.

Mizzou = a joke. Just not as big a joke as KU. I hope UGA plays USC and hands them their a$$ and LSU beats OSU or vice versa. Then Tebow wins the Heisman and we beat Illinois two ways to Tuesday. A perfect ending to my college football season.

Go Gators....Now that Miles is staying, the SEC is hands down the best coached conference. Of course, I'm a bit biased.

Re: Best conference?

i couldnt agree more. les miles is my hero

les brains-more balls

last year ohio state played maybe the 3rd or 4th best team in the SEC (no disrespect to da gators cuz i a diehard SEC fan and 3rd in the SEC is dominatioan compared to any other conference) and got demolished 41-14

now just imagine if the "best" team in the "big" 10 plays the best team in the SEC ................wow........wwowoowowowow.....wow. i seriously see it being somethin like 62-14 (lsu)

plus by then early doucet (best wr in the nation) will have is shoulder properly healed)

matt flynn will also have a healthy shoulder

and big glenn dorsey will have a healthy knee and so will keiland williams and trindon holliday(fastest player in college football) wont have any soreness at all in his ankle.

its gonna be beautiful. glenn dorsey is gonna eat todd boeckman's ass up.

Re: Best conference?

wat they need to do is have a big ten-SEC challenge in football similar to the big-10 acc challenge in college basketball

I'd love it. That way at least we'd know for sure.

Yeah I guess you're right. I mean, the Big Ten did win the head-to-head bowl game series 2-1 last year, right?
