College football's domino effect

BY TROY JOHNSON
johnsont@ledger-enquirer.com
----
Watch the dominos fall, one after another.
Division I-AA Appalachian State kicks Big Ten heavyweight Michigan in the stomach.
Syracuse, a struggling team perhaps better suited for I-AA, whacks 36-point favorite and trendy preseason top 10 pick Louisville over the head with a metal folding chair.
South Florida misses five field goals and still manages to beat 13th-ranked Auburn on the road, then wipes out an unbeaten West Virginia team a few weeks later. Auburn proceeds to knock off No. 4 Florida after somehow losing at home to Mississippi State.
Kansas State bumps off Texas, Missouri smothers Nebraska and 41-point underdog Stanford mugs top-ranked Southern Cal with the help of heroics by a backup quarterback.
Just like that, the Associated Press 25 came to represent a Who's Who list of Who's That?
Next thing you know, some unknown commuter school like George Mason will kick down the door to the NCAA Final Four.

Re: College football's domino effect

It's definitely been a crazy season. I mean, look at some of the teams who are undefeated, highly ranked, or both. But it's not just the upsets, its the near upsets as well. Let's not forget that USF had some trouble with Florida Atlantic in their game. And the upsetters are getting upset themselves - see Appalachian State. Who would've ever thought that the teams to beat in the Big East would not only include the Bulls, but also the Bearcats and the Huskies? Crazy, crazy stuff. Don'tcha love it?

This is why I love College Football. You never know what will happen, you never who will shine, and you never know what top tier team will get their butts handed to them by the unexpected!

Wanna bet? Oh, wait, nevermind.

Yeah, I agree with you. I can't believe Bama fans thought Saban could work THAT fast.

Those are the pro-Bama people in the bet.

Funny how some of them, you don't see much these days, isn't it?

BamaGal's been around recently too, hasn't she? And Stoney on vacation - no wonder things seem quiet.

Her member profile says her last visit was on Oct. 7, so she's still at least lurking.

Re: College football's domino effect

This week is going to be excruciating. I hate to say it, and this burns me...but I'm hoping that Michigan wins out, beats OSU and UF plays them.

I'm hoping that someone, anyone, shows that USF is vulnerable.

OSU going undefeated after my Gators pants'ed them last year is tough to swallow. The BCS rankings are getting nuttier and nuttier.

I'm hoping that Woodson sleeps on an undetected pebble under his mattress Friday night.

I'm hoping Tebow is rested and jacked for Saturday night.

I'm hoping that Auburn, in some wildly ambitious way can pull one out.

Nope, a tactical blue ninja team has taken the pebble and placed it under Tebow's ankle while he rests.

It will be a barnburner. I don't know if I'l be able to handle it.
