Hawaii Warriors

Since there's no WAC forum, I'll keep a perpetual thread of the Hawaii Warriors open.

Hawaii is returning their Heisman candidate QB Colt Brennan, and three of their 4 starting receivers. RB will be a question mark with both the first and second stringer from last season's team drafted to the pros.

Hawaii had 5-players drafted this past season, with only a handful of other programs that had more.

We also had lost a few OL-men and both our starting DEs got drafted to the NFL too.

But, there's a lot of polynesian-power sitting on the bench waiting their turn. Word from the OL coach is, his problem will be trying to determine who the 5-starters are because, there's so much talent.

Depending on who you read, Hawaii has been ranked as high as 19 in at least one pre-season poll.

At this time, us Warrior fans are keeping an eye out on our NFL Hawaiians. Reagan Mauia, our 2nd string RB has already inked a 4-year deal with the Dolphins. Check this out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpiMUKfSKIQ

Otherwise, I'll bring up-dates back to this thread every once in a while.

Go WARRIORS !

Re: Update

Lelie's an interesting case. Wanted to be a #1 wideout in Denver, now he's competing to be the #2 guy in San Francisco. Seems to have talent but also seems to be lacking something in his game, but I can't quite put my finger on what. That said, I do think he'll be able to beat out Hill.

I can't be positive but, I don't think Ashley was recruited coming out of Radford High here in the Islands. What he had was pure speed. Walking on to UH, it was learned that he had an uncanny ability to adjust to the ball - and great hands. I'm not sure why that hasn't translated to the NFL as well but, I think his speed is only average by NFL standards.

Re: Hawaii Warriors

What are Colt's shot for a Heisman? Can someone from Hawaii be a serious contender?

I like Brennan, but he's got that nasty East Coast bias to overcome. Not many of us can stay up to watch the Warriors play.

Colt can't be ignored - can't ignore a Bowl Subdivision QB with a 171 career pass-efficiency rating (a whopping 186 last season) - those are nutzz numbers ladies and gentlemen. And those numbers are much harder to achieve considering the amount of times he throws - maybe most in the nation. He's led or been near the top of all pass offense numbers that last 2-seasons - with one more to go. Last season he was 1st in pass efficiency, total offense, scoring, points responsible for, total passing yards and passing yards per game. http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/natlRank....div=4&site=org

The point about "serious contender" is a valid one. Hawaii gets no respect, although both, the UH and players originally from Hawaii are represented in the NFL well.

There's a lot of boo-hoo here locally about a perceived screw-up in our schedule, the perception that it's weak. Michigan State pulled-out of it's contract with Hawaii (which costs the Spartans $250K), and the Warriors have been unable to fill the date - even with a $700K package on the table (more than what the winner of the Hawaii Bowl would get ). So, we're left with only a 12-game schedule (the Hawaii exempt rule allows us to have a 13th) that includes 2 D-II schools.

Us local fans sense that Hawaii is now faced with going undefeated for a chance for Colt and post-season accolades.

Otherwise, his size isn't what it needs to be IMHO. He's a little light at only 205 lbs - the weight he's bulked-up to. I don't know if you've seen this Colt for Heisman promo - all from last season. Again, hard to argue with the passer-rating numbers. http://www.hawaiiantelmedia.com/demo/colt_01.wmv
