| Playoff Plan Unveiled University of Florida President Dr. Bernie Machen is set to present a playoff plan to his SEC colleagues on Friday. Whether it will take flight is a matter of contention. SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, who doubles as the coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series, said earlier this week that he doesn't expect a proposal to emerge after Machen's presentation. Machen has been making noise about a football playoff since December, when he feared the Gators might be shut out of the national championship game by the BCS system. Instead, Florida moved up to No. 2 in the BCS and proceeded to trounce Ohio State in the BCS Championship Game in Glendale, Ariz. al.com: Everything Alabama |

| Re: Playoff Plan Unveiled With the recently addition of a 12th game to most Bowl Subdivision teams schedules, it seems like "playoffs" are a ways down the road. The primary reason for not having playoffs, is that it would put the student-athlete through too much at the end of a semester. I would reduce the Bowl Subdivision teams schedules back down to 11, and run a playoff similar to that of the D-II and D-III leagues. Still with a 128(?) Bowl Subdivision and Championship Subdivision teams, there's a lot to work out there. Note: Bowl Subdivision is the new term for former D-IA teams, and Championship Subdivision represents the former D-IAA teams. To shorten it, they're referred to as D-I Bowl and D-I Championship. ncaafootball.com |
