NCAA teams scrimmage only in team practice. They don't have a pre-season. When teams face off it is a regular season game.

And then bowl games if they make it.

I think they rely on scouts to go and film opponents games or record from TV an pay per view but I am honestly not sure.

Re: Ask The Experts ... College Football

ok, a Soph. at Bama (not sure why i picked them ) gets paid for a job he doesnt do and is caught by the NCAA ....... the school is put on probation for 2 years with no Bowl games

the player wants to play in a Bowl his senior year to showcase his talents on national TV .... so he transfers to another school as Bama will still be under suspension when he is a Sr.

does this work ? ........ i mean it seems to me the kid screwed Bama and yet he gets to transfer and play without penalty (except of course for sitting out for transferring)

Re: Ask The Experts ... College Football

Nah, in cases like that the player would lose his eligibility too, so he can't just ruin a program and go play elsewhere.

The NCAA would need to reinstate him. Not that anyone would touch someone who would do something like that anyway, for fear he'd wreck their program as well.

Re: Ask The Experts ... College Football

Don't know if this is the proper forum but .......... How much impact do you guys think the new kickoff rule will have? I think significant and it will force coaches to put some of the top players on special teams.

I know Mark Ritch was not a big fan of it and went so far as to say kickoff returns should be eliminated and the ball put in play at the 30. His point being the players are so large and fast the collisions are very violent and pose a huge injury risk.

Re: Ask The Experts ... College Football

got a question for ya Tucker

i watched the Cal - Tenn game ..... and Cal got a penalty for having 2 players on the field at the same time with the same jersey #

this really has me stumped ...... i know there are not 100 players on the roster ..... and they have #'s 1-99 ........ just why is it 2 players would have the same # jersey ?

and how often does this penalty happen ?

Re: Ask The Experts ... College Football

Sometimes players from the "Scout Team" will be on the sidelines, but the coaches have no intention of them playing.

What happened here was an assistant sent him in without substituting the
player already on the field.

It is a penalty that is rarely called.

Re: Ask The Experts ... College Football

After watching three weeks of football and noticing the huge number of skill players with hair flowing a foot or more out of their helmets I got to thinking - is it against the rules to grab those dreadlocks when making a tackle?

It is in the NFL now, but it's still perfectly legal in college.

Welcome to the forum, cmyster, and thanks for joining us!

If I recall correctly, the name is simply due to the fact that these players wear red jersies during practices.
