| Re: Sec Haters??????? I think most people are going to argue that the conference their team plays in is the best. I'll give teams in those conferences credit. Ohio State, Michigan have tradition and are always up there. Oklahoma, since Stoops arrived is always a big one and USC has become a power house and is going to be scary good in 2007. But on average as a conference, the SEC is hands down the most competitive. Its a totally different style of football. In the SEC its about DEFENSE and SPEED. The SEC teams aren't flashy. They don't have a lot of Heismans (Which by the way, is obviously an overrated award). But what they do have is team defense and team speed. Its about Man-to-Man coverage, blitzing, and zone blitzing. This is why SEC teams are ALWAYS under appreciated and don't get a lot of respect. They don't win with style or flash. The SEC wins with Defense. Here are just a few teams in the SEC, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, and thats just some of the teams. I have a good friend who works in the media and is a DIE-HARD Michigan fan. This year he covered the Alabama-Auburn game. He called me afterwards and told me he had never seen anything like it. Michigan/Ohio State, Texas/OU, nothing compared. He said the fans were unbelivable and fanatical on both sides. He said he had always heard us Bama and Auburn fans talk about the rivalry and the SEC but it wasn't until he went to that game he understood. Football is not a sport in the SEC, its a way of life. Not so long ago Florida State and Miami were independents. They didn't belong to a conference. But because of revenue, they realized they needed to join. Both Miami and Florida State were invited to join the SEC. Both turned it down. The Canes chose the Big East, Florida State went with the ACC. At the time, I remember hearing that word from inside the Florida State organization, someone had said something to the effect of, "I want to compete for National titles and we don't need to be fighting for our life every week. But we'll keep our rival game with Florida." The other conferences are good and have good tradition, but year in and year out, the SEC offers the most competitive. I have to vote for the SEC. |
