Playoffs

It's time like these that makes you wonder if a playoff system is in order. USC lost so they are no longer in contention.

We now have a few different teams that are one loss teams (Florida, Michigan, Possible Rutgers but I think they are about to lose, Louisville, Wisconsin, and you know Boise State is undefeated). So basically we are going to leave it to a computer to pick who is DESERVING to play the very deserving Ohio State.

My argument is this, take it as you may. But of all these teams, they have all played who was presented before them and all have some to almost the same status. Granted, some had easier schedules than others, but that is neither hear nor there.

College Football is one of the only sporting competitions without a playoff system. We want preserve tradition even though we have multiple teams with the same right to one opportunity. Sometimes traditions need to be put in file 13 (the trashcan) and move onto to something that will be better for the sport. I for one would love to see the top 8 or 12 teams go at for a few extra weeks of College football.

What do you think?

Re: Playoffs

I'd like to see that too. Maybe the top 25 or something like that. But it won't happen, because the way it is right now brings in more money.

Can you believe that Wake Forest is going to the Orange Bowl?!

Re: Playoffs

Mark my word, that won't happen again. The ACC was really down this year.

Re: Playoffs

I think if they did it right they would not lose any money. They could just take the top 4-6 teams for the playoff. Let everybody else play in the bowl games. They could even name the playoffs after the bowl games. The championship could be the rose bowl. I think that would satisfy everybody.

Re: Playoffs

No matter where you draw the line, you have problems. If you go OSU, Florida, Michigan and Boise, then what about one-loss Big East champion Louisville, the BCS #4 team, presumably either LSU or USC? If you go eight teams, you need to find places for Wake, Oklahoma and Notre Dame as well. Trust me, a playoff system really wouldn't change all that much.

It would decide a true national championship. It would be decided on the field. The 7th or 8th seed will just have to feel left out because the way it is now they have no shot either. No matter where you draw the line there is going to be somebody that feels left out. In the basketball tounament, they give 65 teams a shot and there are teams complaining they were overlooked. There should also only be one BCS poll. There should be not others in the discussion. If they have a top 6 they are the ones that play.
