Dear Heisman voters

I think Troy Smith will win the Heisman trophy in a few weeks but is he really the most deserving? I'm probably going to upset some people with this, but I still feel Brady Quinn deserves to be called the best player in college football. My understanding is that the trophy is presented to the best player in college football. Brady Quinn to me is that. Brady Quinn has played on a Notre Dame team that has a weak defense and a troubled offensive line. They have struggled to find a consistent running game, and most of the teams they have faced have spent their time preparing how to stop Brady Quinn. He has a target on his chest every week and he is the one who takes the biggest fall any time the team has an issue. Despite that he has put up 35 passing TD's, 2 rushing TD's, and 3,278 yards passing with a 63.7% completion percentage. All this against the 23rd toughest schedule. Without Brady Quinn, Notre Dame would not have beaten Michigan State or UCLA. They would not have even put up 24 or 21 points against Michigan or USC. Without Brady Quinn, I honestly think Notre Dame goes 7-5 or 8-4.

Is Troy Smith a good football player? Yes. Is Darren McFadden a good football player? Yes. But neither one means more to their team than Brady Quinn. He is the MVP of that football team and I think if you put him that Ohio State team they are even better than they are right now.

I think Brady Quinn does not deserve any of the negative press he gets, he deserves credit for his courageous season, and he deserves to be called the best college football player.

I agree with you for the most part domer, I am not a big Troy Smith fan. The talent surrounding Troy is unbelievable and superior to most every team in college football but I wouldnt vote for him. Someone like Brady Quinn or Pat White mean everything to their respected offenses and deserve just as much consideration even though their teams are not UNDEFEATED

Re: Dear Heisman voters

When looking to next year I think Pat White is a name you will hear as an early favorite for the Heisman. In a way I feel bad for him because he is on the same team as Steve Slaton, and I feel they will overshadow each other. If they both come back, both are healthy, and both can take the off season to just get better, they will be an unreal backfield come next September.

Troy Smith will be the unanimous Heisman this year. Should he be? I think so. He's led the Buckeyes to an undefeated record. Meanwhile, Brady Quinn (while playing pretty good) never led the Irish to contending with the Trojans or Wolverines.

Re: Dear Heisman voters

well the agreement seems to be that troy smith probably doesn't deserve the heisman. the one player that i vote for, and it hurts me to say this, is d. mcfadden. i mean maybe arkansas could win some games without him...but they wouldn't have a legitimate shot at the sec title without him. this guy plays in the toughest conference in football and is expected to rush for 100 yds. a game. i know he won't win this year...but i look for him next year as one of the top contenders

Re: Dear Heisman voters

Granted, Colt Brennan (QB rating 186.7)has not play against the caliber of teams that Quinn (QB rating 151.6) or Smith (QB rating167.9) have, he still has the numbers. Too bad Hawaii is in the WAC.

If the Heisman were more than a popularity contest, this kid might have a chance.

Re: Dear Heisman voters

it's not that the heisman is a popularity contest...it's more of let's hand it to the big ten contest. every year it seems like somebody from the big ten is in the top 5. personally, troy smith is nowhere in my top 5. how can you struggle against northwestern and almost lose to illinois and still be considered the "best" player in college football? here's a top 5 for ya:
1) dwayne jarrett
2) brady quinn
3) darren mcfadden
4) colt brennan
5) adrian peterson

i know adrian got injured so he's out. and that top 5 is in no particular order by the way

Correct me if U'm wrong, but didn't Peterson miss a large part of the season to a self inflicked, end zone dive, injury.

I can't imagine you could miss that many games and still make the top 5. If I were forced to vote from that list I'd have to select Quinn, but I'm kind partial to Notre Dame.

Re: Dear Heisman voters

well that's true about adrian. but the heisman is supposed to be awarded to the "best college football player in the nation." that's the only reason i have his name there. i despise OU and anybody that plays for them...but there is no denying his ability when he's not out there trying out for the olympic diving team.

If Slaton and/or White from WVU are not in the running for the Heisman next year (assuming they continue to play like they have been), then I will know that the fix is in, and go back to ignoring the Heisman altogther.

Earlier I was reading an old ESPN article about the Worse (or Greatest) Heisman flops of all times. If I can find it again I send it to you.

Here it is: AskMen.com - Heisman flops

Anre Ware was picked as biggest flop ever....that would make a good thread, "Biggest Heisman Flops".

Re: Dear Heisman voters

Interesting that you put Dwayne Jarrett in there, to be honest he was the biggest shock to not be a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award (Best WR). His injuries have hurt him, that and the improved play of Steve Smith and Patrick Turner. Still voting for Brady Quinn, but good points made....
