Erickson back at Idaho

Former Miami Hurricanes and NFL coach Dennis Erickson was recently named the new head coach at the University of Idaho.

Erickson, you may recall, got his start with the Vandals back when they were I-AA. Afterwards, we went on to win two National Championships with the 'Canes while also coaching at Montana, Washington State, Oregon State, the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers.

Idaho was just 2-6 in their conference last seaosn. Can Erickson actually help make the Vandals into a legitimate contender in the WAC?

I am not so sure that he can make this turnaround soon, but it is possible. He will have a tough time getting players that will be able to compete on a national scale, but he should be able to improve on the 2-6 record in the conference last year.

I thought it was very interesting that he went full circle, back to where he started coaching!

A slightly amusing story.

Approximately 12 years ago, Idaho and Boise State both made the jump to Division 1A. At the time, the Vandals football program was by far the most dominant in the state, they had bigger facilities for Division 1 play and were a football program with a lot of potential. Boise State, on the other hand, was ridiculed for being a small fish in a big pond, not have the facilities or recruiting power to play Division 1 football.

12 years later, looks like things have turned out slightly different!
