| David Ball breaks Jerry Rice TD record According to the AP, "David Ball caught his 51st touchdown pass Saturday to break the Division I career record held by Jerry Rice and help New Hampshire defeat Richmond 27-17." This kid scored the record-shattering touchdown in the third quarter of today's game. The odds of him having a pro career to rival Rice's is quite unlikely, but kudos to the kid nonetheless. For the rest of his life, he can say, "I broke one of Jerry Rice's records." Not very many people can say that, you know.

| Re: David Ball breaks Jerry Rice TD record Yes, Mississippi Valley State was I-AA then. I've found numerous sources that confirm that. However, it looks like I was wrong about the NCAA recognizing combined D-I records. Despite what the AP says, NCAASports.com, billed as the official web site for NCAA Sports, refers to in as a Division I-AA record, not a Division I record, in the article UNH's Ball ties Jerry Rice's TD record - NCAA Sports.com, written back in Sept. when the kid tied the mark. So I'm guessing that's the official word. Any way you look at it, the kid broke one of Rice's records. How cool is that? |
