Not a game; a job

Michigan football players complained that they were spending long hours at football practice, more than the maximum of 20 hours per week. According to NCAA survey, many other student athletes have said the same thing. The survey shows top level college footbal players spend well over twice that on athletic activites.
There is a lot of pressure on these young athletes: packed stadiums, big tv contracts and a lot of school pride.

Not a game, a job: NCAA athletes work long hours

What price will be exacted from these kids. Read the link. It was an eye opener to me. Then tell me what you think.

Re: Not a game; a job

Good topic Bette. Kids are allowed to do voluntary workouts or scrimmages. Every team is looking to get an edge though. Although, coaches are not allowed to supervise in any way, I have to believe they send reps to supervise these workouts. Hard to prove really unless kids step forward.

Schools where kids spend more time in the late spring or summer in workouts have a huge advantage. Yes, I think they spend too much time. My resolution: Expand spring practice and ban workouts altogether during the early the summer. Very hard to monitor or enforce this though.
