Kentucky starts coaching carousel

Kentucky’s firing of Billy Gillispie on Friday now has college basketball’s coaching carousel in full swing. Depending on who gets the job and when it happens, the speculation surrounding the Kentucky situation could be a major topic of conversation at next week’s Final Four in Detroit.
On Friday, Florida Coach Billy Donovan issued a statement in which he said that he was not interested in the Kentucky job. Just a few hours later, Virginia Commonwealth Coach Anthony Grant accepted the job at Alabama.
Grant was pursued by Florida after Donovan left in 2007 to become coach of the Orlando Magic before he changed his mind a few days later and returned to the Gators.
Those mentioned as possible candidates for the Kentucky job include Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo, Memphis Coach John Calipari and Louisville Coach Rick Pitino, but more realistic candidates are likely Oklahoma State Coach Travis Ford, a former Kentucky player, and Xavier Coach Sean Miller.
There are also still jobs to be had at Arizona, Georgia and Virginia, which will make hires that will inevitably cause other job vacancies.
So who will Kentucky end up hiring? Any idea who will be the pick at Arizona, Georgia or Virginia?

Pitino says it should be Travis Ford or John Pelphrey because the fans already love them. He also said they will be coaching "stars" of the future.

I don't think I will care. I am disappointed that some of the players say they are glad Billy Gillispie is gone. Guess he worked them too hard.

Those players need to be gone then.... shame on them.... if they aren't willin to put the hard work in, they don't deserve to wear the Kentucky uniform.

John Calipari to Kentucky, it's already a done deal.
Tony Bennett left Washington State to take the Virginia job, another done deal
.
The top name I'm hearing for Arizona is Mark Few of Gonzaga, not a done deal yet but expect an announcement soon.

Yeah and John Calipari is getting paid very well. Strange how they are always screaming they need more tax money. But they can pay a coach millions a year.

I am thinking they jumped from the skillet into the fire. This Calipari dude seems tough. And "if" he does bring some of his recruits and a player or two where does that leave the whiners that are already here. Billy loved those guys and said so. We shall see if they feel the love now.
