Looks like the missed free throws and Dorsey fouling out are going to cost them though. Except for that, they would have won before regular time was over.

So the Kansas Jayhawks are National Champions, beating Memphis 75-68 in overtime yesterday.

Re: Memphis vs. Kansas

Big time choke job by Memphis. The kid that missed the 2 foul shots late could easily have been hit with a technical when he slammed the ball down and it went into the rafters. Rose will be a good pro, but another year of college would help his game very much, not that he will stay.

I am not very well acquainted with the rules of college basketball, but I think he should have been. Is it a rule like it is in the NFL?
Too bad, Memphis played a good game, but like you said, they choked at the very end.

Classic Choke job, that is why you make your free throws.

Re: Memphis vs. Kansas

In any other spot that's a certain technical foul. The refs showed lots of restraint by not calling one, when one would be called in that situation 99 out of 100 times. remember, Michigan lost their chance to tie North carolina when Webber called time out when he had none in that title game, so a technical in that situation would not be unheard of. The refs recognized the kid was upset because he had missed both of his free throws, but Memphis had gotten the ball back and was going back to the line to try 2 more.

Re: Memphis vs. Kansas

memphis had the game rapped up and then dorsey fouled out they wouldve sealed the deal if free throws were made, you give the other team enough chances theyre bound to come back..

Re: Memphis vs. Kansas

The lack of free throws and dorsey was what made them lose. Specially not havin Dorsey in OT is critical

Re: Memphis vs. Kansas

they coulda still won if they fouled chalmers before he got the ball up court, just like how bruce pearl did to derrick rose when tennessee played memphis. but it turns out the free throws WERE a big deal. how could they not be? any time you fail at an opportunity to score can hurt you.
