Omaha, Neb. – I like most you of you, spent my Saturday watching NCAA tournament games and there were two games that caught my eye other that my champion UCLA surviving a scare at the hands of Texas A&M. Those games were two-seeded Duke losing to seventh seeded West Virginia and third seeded Wisconsin defeating eleven seeded Kansas State to move on the Sweet 16.

Now there was a lot of controversy about who should’ve been the last two in the NCAA tournament Wisconsin or Duke? They were exact opposites of each other, Duke playing the Suns’ style, getting out and running, shooting three, and just plain being fun to watch. Wisconsin plays great defense and are almost hard to watch, but they win. Duke landed the final two seeded and was stationed out in Washington D.C. Wisconsin landed a three seeded and was put out in Omaha.

Duke probably should’ve lost in round one when they survived a game with fifth-teen seeded Belmont, but they did win 71-70. Saturday Duke looked like a totally different team coming out of the game jumping out ahead of West Virginia, but the second half they choked losing 73-67. These games prove a lot two theories. The first that Duke didn’t deserve to be a two seed and that defense wins championships, Duke doesn’t have a big guy who can get rebounds and it killed. Then it also gave people a reason not jump on to the bandwagon of teams like Duke, Notre Dame, and Tennessee, because if they have one bad game shooting wise it could kill them.

Then there is Wisconsin. The Badgers as I said were the third seed in the Midwest region, and got paired in the first round with Cal State Fullerton who was a team like Duke, shoot the three, or get out and run. But Wisconsin enforced their slowed down pace and won the game 71-56. Then Saturday Wisconsin got face super star freshman Michael Beasley, and the eleven seeded Kansas State Wild Cats. They also won that game 72-55. They move on to face either ten-seeded Davidson or two-seeded Georgetown.

This only proves the point that Wisconsin was the better team and should’ve gotten the last two seed over Duke. I know they’re in the Big Ten and the Big Ten is awful and Duke is in the ACC and the ACC great, but Wisconsin was the better team and should’ve gotten the two seed. I got have them in the Final Four because they play defense and win ugly, very similar to my National Title pick, UCLA. The bottom line is Wisconsin might not win pretty but they do win and should’ve gotten a two seed.

Wisconsin seems to me to start slow.
I have seen teams that werent as good as they put points up first or get ahead.
No really big offensive guy. No one person really stands out as a top college basketball player, as being the guy. Even though they do have guys that step up a bit in each game.
Many of them come from small towns or cities (we arent overwhelmed with huge cities here in Wisconsin) I believe that something like 75% of UW's roster comes from Wisconsin.

But----they win games, true, not pretty always, but they win. The defense leads with the fewest points allowed per game, under 54. What the offense lacks, the defense makes up for. These guys truly play as a team.

Second seed or third seed? Being new at this college basketball stuff, I am not real sure how important it is in the larger scheme of things. I dont think Wisconsin cares. They are earning respect on the basketball court.
I know I dont care.

Probably worked out better for Wisconsin being a three seed. I think WVU would've been a much tougher draw for them than K-State was.
