| Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois separate themselves from pack For the past 5 years, the Big Ten has had a single champion:Ohio State and Illinois two times each and Wisconsin once. Welcome to the new Big Ten where the title this year is a 3 team race and all look to be hitting the finish line in a dead heat. Among the most interesting things is the diversity of the race. Purdue is not a national elite-level team in any area. The Badgers are in the Top 5 in scoring defense and have one of the best field-goal defenses in the country. The Hoosiers have been distracted by coaching difficulties and rely on DJ White and Eric Gordon, superstars. When that duo struggles, the Hoosiers struggle. Nationally the Big 10 is rated by realtimerpi.com as the 6th strongest league this season. The days of domination in this conference are ending.
