Ask The Experts: College Basketball

This thread is for our members who have questions about college basketball.

I'm sure the are many of you out there who can assist members that don't understand or just don't know the rules of college basketball. I must admit I have limited knowledge of the actual rules of the game.

I will be happy to ask the first question:

Is the SHOT CLOCK visible to the players on the floor?

Re: Ask The Experts

Yes, the shot clock is clearly visable to the players on the court. I believe most arenas have it in multiple areas, including over each basket and on the "Jumbotron" or main scoreboard. It starts upon each change of possession. See also Shot clock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The rule is being changed for the 2008-2009 season for NCAA. It will be moved back 1ft., so it will be 20ft. 9inches for the men. Womens will remain the same at 19 ft. 9 in.

That doesnt answer your question and I am most certainly no expert but just taking a wild guess, its because its amateur vs. pro.
If there is a better answer, someone please speak up.

Someone who plays in the low post, or the area on a basketball court closest to the basket but outside of the free throw lane. Usually centers and power forwards.

A power forward is a lot like a center - a big guy who usually plays on the opposite side of the center, down in the low post on offense and under the basket on defense. Hope that helps.

Re: Ask The Experts: College Basketball

Ok I know how they set up a screen in the NFL. But they are always talking about so and so trying to set up a screen. (They move around the court so fast I dont know how they can tell.) So does setting up a screen mean they are just trying to get a member of their own team directly ahead of them and between them and the basket???????????/

A screen in basketball is when one member of a team gets in the way of a defender, so the player that defender is defending can get open.
