Kelly Shoppach homered twice and doubled three times Wednesday against the Tigers to become just the eighth player ever to collect five extra-base hits in a game.
The game went 13 innings, but Shoppach had all five in the first nine. He was then intentionally walked in the 10th. He later struck out with the bases loaded in the 12th. Shoppach is just the second American Leaguer to pull off the feat. Lou Boudreau in 1946 was the other. Shawn Green was the last to do it when he had four homers and a double on May 23, 2002.
