Sabathia gets long-term offer from Indians

The Indians made a proposal to ace pitcher C.C. Sabathia recently, General Manager Mark Shapiro said Thursday. Sabathia's contract expires after the coming season and he would be a marquee free agent in 2009. The Indians' No. 1 draft pick 10 years ago, Sabathia said it would be tough to leave the city where he has pitched since 2001. ''I was telling Amber when we touched down yesterday it felt like home,'' Sabathia said of his wife. ''This has been my second home. Hopefully, we can get something done.'' -- Akron Beacon Journal

Sign him. Sign him now. Yes, he didn't have the best showing in the playoffs last year, but he's still a heck of a pitcher.

They better sign him. A pitcher like that doesn't come along every year. I bet he has an even better year this season. I would like to know how much they offered. I didn't think they could afford him,but it sounds like he may give them a discount to stay where he's comfortable.
