In a slight surprise, Cleveland Indians starter C.C. Sabathia was named the AL Cy Young award winner.

Remember, the voting was done before the post-season and only considered regular season performances.

Sabathia received 19-first place votes with 119 total points. Boston's Josh Beckett received 8-first place votes with 86 total points.

"Sabathia, 19-7 with a 3.21 ERA, received a $2.25 million bump in pay by winning the Cy Young. He gets a $250,000 bonus and will earn $11 million in 2008 instead of $9 million."

Well, I guess he deserved it, based solely on regular season.

As big an Indians fan as I am, though, if the voting were after the playoffs? Sabathia wouldn't have even gotten my vote.

If that's true, it's a damn shame. This is baseball, not a popularity contest.

It's human nature though. Even going into the post-season, which doesn't count towards the Cy Young obviously, who would choose C.C. over Beckett? I thought Beckett would be a runaway winner.

I thought it should have been Beckett also. I didn't even think Sabathia was the best pitcher on his team..let alone the whole AL.
