Wedge gets contract extension

The Cleveland Indians have signed manager Eric Wedge to a three-year contract extension.

According to the Associated Press, "Wedge, whose Indians didn't reach the playoffs in his first four seasons, was signed through the 2007 season with the club holding a club option for 2008 and 2009... But with Cleveland (54-37) trailing the first-place Detroit Tigers by just one-half game entering the week and leading the wild-card chase, the Indians decided the time was right to extend Wedge's deal through the 2010 season." Financial terms were not disclosed. Good idea to re-sign Wedge?

Re: Wedge gets contract extension

I was never a big fan of Wedge's, and it was all over the radio the last few years calling for his job, but I think he has done a good job this year. He doesn't have the best starting staff because 2 of them were hurt most of the season. Their bullpen was re-pieced together this offseason, and their big bats have not produced like expected. All this and they are still right up there with the leaders.
