LeBron youngest to 10,000 points

LeBron James became the youngest NBA player ever to score 10,000 points, scoring 26 in yesterday's loss to the Boston Celtics.

So will James wind up owning the all-time scoring record when all's said and done?

James hits milestone but Cavaliers fall to Celtics 92-87 - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

Re: LeBron youngest to 10,000 points

With the admittedly ailing ankle, at age 23, breaking the record could be a challenge. It appears that the ability and desire are there but will the body hold up ???

That's a good point, LSC. Just because he's young doesn't mean he will be able to play any more years than most competitors. Wear and tear is much the same, regardless of age (although the body can theoretically heal better when we're younger). He is showing signs of that wear and tear here and there, so I guess it's not a given he can break the record.

Doubt it...If I am not mistaken the record is way out there...and they guy holding it was a giant of a center with a sky hook shot that hung around forever...not a guard who will slow down over time.

Jordan finished his career almost 10,000 points behind the all time record ..... no way Lebron takes the record when he is done

Re: LeBron youngest to 10,000 points

lets put it this way ....... LeBron needs to average almost 25 points a game for the next 15 years to get the record ..... not going to happen

and i looked it up .... Jordan ended his career about 6,000 points behind the all time leader ..... and James is no Jordan

Ah, but what if Jordan had come to the NBA right out of high school like Lebron did. Could he have done it, you think?

i think he could have been very close if all the cards played out just right .... i count about 5 missed seasons

3 for college ..... 1 when he first retired .... then basically another due to injury/retirement (there where 2 seasons in which he played in less then 20 games)

in those 5 seasons he would only have to average about 15 points a game to break the record ....... yes i think he could have easily done that
