On the pages of this website, he has been called the “International Man of Mystery” – and it has nothing to do with European espionage. It has more to do with the fact that Sasha Pavlovic is the one Cavalier who constantly confounds Cleveland fans. He can be fantastic and frustrating, mesmerizing and maddening.
But lately, his hunger and fresh legs have been a much-needed lift for a team that’s obviously plowing through the dog days of the season.
On Sunday afternoon against the Pistons, Pavlovic hit his first three shots and finished with 12 points – going 5-for-8 from the floor, including 2-for-3 from long distance. His trey with 90 seconds remaining brought Cleveland to within seven points, but that was as close as the Wine and Gold would get.
With Coach Mike Brown searching for answers to get the club out of a funk that’s seen them drop nine of their last 14, the dice came up with rookie point guard Daniel Gibson and Pavlovic, who’s in his fourth year as a pro. The 23-year-old was the second Serbian selected in the 2003 NBA Draft – chosen 17 spots after countryman Darko Milicic and 18 spots behind teammate, LeBron James.
