Lebron Booed on Friday night

Apparenty Lebron James was jeered from the home crowd in Cleveland after a poor freee throw shooting exhibition at a critical juncture in the game. Living in Columbus we are geographically torn between Cinncinati and Cleveland for our MLB and NFL teams. It seems that typically, Columbus people prefer The Reds and The Browns but with The NBA, if we are to determine our collective NBA team simply by proximity, we have no other option than to pull for The Cavs. Now this game was just a microcosm of why I cannot stand rooting for Cleveland teams. There fans are so utterly absurd and demanding that I hate being grouped with them. I don't understand, does Cleveland want Lebron to leave? It is already a topic of great discussion. Maybe the missed free throws under normal circumstances was worthy of the booing, but this is a 21 year-old trying to single handedly revive a franchise. Maybe cut him a little slack? Yes, he is making a lot of money but something of this magnitude in the sports world is a slow, arduous process. What's another few years without a title, anyways?

What a bunch of jerks. Give the kid a break -- everyone has an off day. we're talking about a future Hall of Famer here if he keeps up as he's going, and he's a much better team player than some of the guys already there. Then again, I suppose this is one way he'll learn to grow a thick skin, as every public personality has to. Fans are so fickle.

I can't imagine booing the most complete player in the game. This guy has all of the tools and he's only 21. You boo a guy who doesn't put effort into his play. You don't boo a guy who is giving his all and can't carry the whole team each and every night.

Re: Lebron Booed on Friday night

What could those fans possibly be thinking? Perhaps they miss the Shawn Kemp era?

Hello, SGworks, and welcome to GoTeamsGo. I agree with you. This one's a real head-scratcher. You have the privelege of watching one of if not the best young players in basketball today, he's playing his heart out and doing everything he can to help your team win a title, any you BOO him? People like that give us Buckeye State sports fans a bad name!

Lebron doesn't deserved to be booed. He has brought the Cavs out of a slump. Plus me being from Ohio that gives us a bad name and disappoints us. I can see Lebron doing great things in Ohio.

Re: Lebron Booed on Friday night

Lebron is nice, but something about him irks me. He has this air about him that you just think that he is entitled to something. They shouldn't boo him, but I just don't necessarily like him.

I think the air of entitlement is a natural result of that kingly treatment that I railed about elsewhere. When you treat someone like they're God's gift to sports for long enough, eventually they'll start to believe it. Some react well to it, some end up like Kobe Bryant. I don't see the air you're taking about in LeBron, but I wouldn't be surprised to find it's there.

Cool Re: Lebron Booed on Friday night

Welcome Jabbey and SG Works.

This is how fans are. Mariano Rivera blew a couple of saves last April and he got booed also. How can anyone boo Mariano? That's nuts. Sometimes you just don't know what you have until they're gone.

But having said that, if Cleveland fans don't want Lebron, I'll take him for the Knicks. You can have anyone you want on the roster. 1 player, All 12...It's up to you.

I'd take my chances with Lebron and 4 CBA players.

Re: Lebron Booed on Friday night

At least The Knicks would then have some cap flexibility.

Kosar, Kemp, etc.

You would think that with their baseball team (which posted a losing record from the Eisenhower Administration through Ronnie Reagan's), Bernie Kosar in the 80s, losing the Cleveland Barons (remember them?), the aforementioned Shawn Kemp "era" and all those near-misses to Jordan's guys in the 90s, Cleveland fans would be a tad more appreciative that one of the greatest sporting talents to come out of Ohio is now playing in their city.

Sheesh. No wonder Cleveland is the butt of so many jokes, eh?

Re: Lebron Booed on Friday night

Has Shaq ever been booed for missing free-throws when he was in LA, or now in Miami ? NO .... because they know that once he finishes missing his free throws, he'll continue doing what he's good at ....winning championships ! . In Lebrons case ... If he shot 40 % from the line , he would still be the best player in the game today, so who cares if he misses a couple of free tosses? Simply ridiculous.

I couldn't agree more. I just recently moved from Cleveland where I spent three years and I can say without a doubt that Cleveland fans are by far the most fickle I have ever encountered.
Before Lebron was drafted Cav's tickets were easier to get than preapproved credit cards. There was no one at the games. Had it been smush parker instead of Lebron missing those free throws there would be no booing because there would be no one there to boo.
The mentality goes to both the Browns as well as the Indians. Just a few short years ago Clevelanders would often brag of their sell out streak at Jacobs field and everyone would swear to you that they were one of the 2,500 that would regulary show up to old Municipal field.
Look at Jacobs field now that the Indians are no longer in contention. If they draw 15 thousand it's a good night for them.
