It finally feels like the holidays in Cleveland. The calendar has turned to December, snow is on the ground and, with only three weeks until Christmas, people are getting their wish lists together. Most of us can guess what Mike Brown wants. And his number is 32.
The Cavaliers split their weekend back-to-back on the road – topping Atlanta with a total team effort and losing to Houston with a total team loss. The 106-95 decision over the Hawks in Dixie was as impressive as the clunker against the Rockets was unimpressive. Cleveland is now one game under .500 without Hughes.
Not having Hughes is really no excuse for a couple of the losses. He wouldn’t have defended Eddy Curry in the post when the Knicks dropped Cleveland at home or kept Jermaine O’Neal off the glass in the loss against Indiana. But not having Hughes is tantamount to the Cavaliers not having their No. 3 hitter. And it’s getting tougher to continue counting on LeBron James to hit the long ball.
