Jurevicius recovering from staph infection

Browns wide receiver Joe Jurevicius contracted a staph infection following knee surgery, becoming the sixth Cleveland player in four years to suffer from staph. Jurevicius is recovering well and is expected to participate in team activities in May and minicamp in June.
A hospital spokesperson says the staph didnt occur until after the surgery.
Other Browns players who have contracted staph infections over the last four years are center LeCharles Bentley, tight end Kellen Winslow, receiver Braylon Edwards, and former Browns safety Brian Russell and linebacker Ben Taylor.
Bentley still is trying to return from complications from the staph infection that required three additional surgeries following the reconstruction of his torn patella tendon in July 2006.
The Browns had their facility treated with an anti-staph agent and are taking precautions.

Re: Jurevicius recovering from staph infection

If I'm not mistaken, every single one of these guys had their surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
Now, I know the hospital's saying the infection didn't happen until later, but... it seems fishy to me. Am I the only one?

Your statement made me curious so I went looking and you are correct. They all had their surgery there. The feeling seemed to be that it must be coming from the Browns' facility but I'm with you.

I thought so... I remember that it struck me odd the last time the staph infection issue came up. If I were a Cleveland football player, I would think that it's time to start driving a little further south, to Akron General.

Re: Jurevicius recovering from staph infection

It's not the Browns facilities. As it says in the article, "Infection-control officials from the Clinic visited the Browns' facility in October 2005 and July 2006 for basic prevention purposes. The Browns also had their facility treated last year with a special anti-staph agent and are vigilant about taking precautions." That's what makes me suspicious about the hospital. It's the only other place these players have in common.
